The importance of choosing and buying your PC items early
Design plays a big part in how it all comes together with aesthetics, functionality, and symmetry. I don’t just mean the design of the house as a whole but the individual detail that architects and designers miss which is critical.
With many custom projects behind us, I find that certain detail gets missed that if addressed early will simplify the process during construction and create a better finish without that the rush decision making. .
Let’s take a bathroom renovation as a first example
Items that need to be onsite before, any work is started.
Toilets and inbuilt cisterns: without these onsite, the plumber doesn’t have the exact measurements to set the pipes in the wall and floor at the correct measurements for spacing clearances and floor heights. this is especially important if you have ledges behind your toilet and hidden cisterns.
Vanity: having this onsite alloys the mixers in the wall to be setup correctly at the right height, this is especially important if you have top-mounted bowls with inwall mixers so that they can be installed at the correct heights so the mixer handle clears the bowl when its opened and closed, waste pipes to be installed at correct heights and hidden from view so it’s not seen while sitting on the toilet. also ensures that the pipe work is set up for the correct clearances opening and closing draws and shelves. there is nothing more frustrating than finding a shelf in the vanity has been hacked out to fit the plumbing or the draw has had a chunk taken out of it so it can close correctly.
Mixers: Shower heads: nothing like setting up a shower rose at a standard height and then finding out later that the gooseneck you bought hits your head or the ceiling and can’t be used. Having mixers on site early is of utmost importance for the installation in the showers and in any on-wall vanity design.
PC items: Shower mixers, bath mixers, and basin taps. including and bowls
The biggest frustration I find that early on my client would buy a mixer in rose gold colour for the installation before sheeting which is great but then later to find that the freestanding bath mixer doesn’t come in rose gold and neither do the toilet seat caps or buttons,
having everything onsite early means everything comes together in the end.
